HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., September 1, 2010 – Narda Safety Test Solutions, an L-3 company, announced today that it has introduced the world’s most advanced system for the detection of potentially hazardous voltages present on conductive structures. Narda’s Model 8950/10 is a complete system designed to be mounted to a pickup truck that rapidly scans streets for energized objects to minimize human or animal exposure to high voltages. The system was recently tested and witnessed by an independent engineering firm to secure the utility company certification needed to perform testing in New York State.

The Narda 8950/10 consists of a three-axis, E-field sensor configured especially for the stray voltage task. The sensor outputs field information through fiber-optic cables to a hardened laptop computer that is monitored by trained personnel in the vehicle. When voltages are detected, the operator is notified via visual and audible alarms. The Narda 8950/10 is also able to discriminate between primary or neutral side faults – a key feature for the public’s safety.

Narda’s 8950/10 will operate for 10 hours on its internal NiMH rechargeable batteries. It is supplied with a vehicle mount, computer, software, fiber-optic cable and serial converter.

Global RF Solutions, a leading RF Safety consulting firm, conducted a series of tests on today’s most popular Personal Monitors. The tests were conducted in real world environments using popular emitters covering a range of frequencies from 27 MHz to 1900 MHz.

Global RF Solutions engineers compared RF exposure levels obtained with the monitors to those from calibrated laboratory equipment. In all tests, the exposure levels measured by the Nardalert S3, on and off the body, were significantly the most accurate.
